Lead/co-lead EDC’s business development efforts in assigned European markets
Continual interaction with major local borrowers, bankers, private and public sector officials to identify opportunities, discuss financial structuring, credit analysis and risk mitigation
Leverage network to enhance EDC support for key clients and Canadian exporters/investors
Build and manage EDC’s brand image and reputation in the market
Manage the Corporation’s relationship with the Canadian Government for markets covered out of Düsseldorf
Responsible for overall business results for assigned country portfolio against business targets, including strategic accounts
Research and identify high-potential prospects; proactive outreach to uncover client needs; generate and follow up on leads; develop new business opportunities
Meet prospective Canadian clients referred locally or via HQ/Trade Commissioner’s Service/banks
Work with EDC teams to match opportunities with EDC appetite and Canadian capabilities
Develop new leads in line with EDC onboarding requirements
Collaborate with Senior Regional Manager and internal teams to develop account strategies and Market Coverage Plans
Champion customer issues and resolve problems efficiently
Assist with post-closing customer service (Asset Management, Loans Admin, Credit Surveillance)
Coordinate EDC resources to ensure smooth interaction between underwriters and buyers
Assist underwriters with in-market issues and provide market-specific underwriting input
Make local presentations, speeches and media interviews on behalf of EDC (in consultation with Chief Representative and Public Affairs)
Represent EDC in trade planning and administration within local Canadian Missions
Organize, prepare and execute local EDC-sponsored BD events and contribute to Canadian events
Plan, coordinate and execute EDC Executive outreach trips to the region
Help develop and/or market new services/products customized to client needs by providing timely market information
Manage and maintain contact network with government/local officials and develop understanding of local politics
Develop and update local contacts database and account developments in EDC CRM
Establish and operate within budgets
Maintain key market information on the EDC Country Portal
Perform other duties as required upon request
Hard skills
Completed university degree (Bachelor or higher) in a related field (e.g., international relations, finance, international commerce, political science, business administration, marketing) OR equivalent combination of education, training and work experience
Advanced proficiency in English (reading, writing, comprehension, speaking)
Advanced proficiency in German (reading, writing, comprehension, speaking)
Minimum of 5 years of recent and relevant experience in a business development role in international/trade financing, international business, corporate banking or similar (recent = within last 7 years)
Extensive knowledge of international economic development (export/trade promotion, FDI)
Extensive knowledge of local and regional market needs and relevant business opportunities

Asset: Knowledge of underwriting practices and familiarity with common financing structures
Operational: ability to work 37.5 hours/week in person at the Consulate of Canada in Düsseldorf, willingness to work overtime on short notice, ability to travel within Germany and occasionally internationally
Conditions: ability to obtain and hold valid work authorization and obtain/maintain Government of Canada Reliability Status (criminal and credit background check)
