Tasks

  • The Secure Diagnostics Team is responsible for software solutions that are implemented in various ECUs for our various product lines which provides security to the ECUs against unauthorized access to the vehicle over diagnostics. Our responsibility begins with the idea on how to make our vehicles more secure with state of the art security features, convert the ideas into functional specifications, make the implementation available for all the applicable ECUs and finally test it till the series release.
  • As a part of master thesis, we are trying to explore alternatives to our current secure diagnostics software implementations for our next generation vehicles going in the direction of software defined vehicles. The alternatives should focus not only on state of the art technologies but also help us smoothening the entire ECU development process. Some of our existing security features are now also available within the AUTOSAR standards and the idea is to showcase with an actual implementation on how our current secure diagnostics software implementation can be replaced with the AUTOSAR standard solutions and focus on how the standard AUTOSAR solutions overcomes the current shortcomings. On the other hand also look at the current state of the art solutions available in the market which might contribute to our overall secure diagnostics concept. In a nut shell: Understand the current solutions we have in place, look for options within the AUTOSAR world to standardize some of the solutions and also keep an eye on what is going on in the automotive industry in this regard.
  • These challenges await you:
  • Deep understanding on the actual secure diagnostics software component implemented in the ECUs
  • Investigate the AUTOSAR standards to check which of the features from the software components could be replaced using AUTOSAR standard modules
  • Implement and showcase that the same functionalities could be realized using standardized AUTOSAR framework
  • Research on how the current solutions can be improvised using state of the art technologies available in the automotive world for better security of all Daimler Trucks Vehicles
  • Documentation and presentation of the results
  • The final thesis selection is made in close consultation with you, the university and the hiring department.

Hard skills

  • Master student in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics or comparable courses
  • Experience in software programming with C/C++ and knowledge on Vector simulation tools like CANoe, Candela studio and DaVinci would be a plus
  • Basic understanding of the AUTOSAR framework would be an advantage
  • Self-Motivated and result oriented approach, teamwork to go along with it
  • Basic knowledge of software development for an automotive environment
  • English and German proficiency
  • Creative mind to think for advanced solutions would perfectly sum up the candidate
